About

Philip’s Frolic produces cool climate shiraz in the 2011 and 2012 vintage (2013 is maturing in oak) and these vintages were grown at an altitude of 750 meters (yes about as high as you can grow great shiraz and did you spot its really higher than our labels say?) in rocky sandy loam on a clay base with limestone below, in a "rain shadow" at Canyonleigh in the Southern Highlands on the east coast of Australia providing perfect terroir for the variety which gives this shiraz an elegance and its distinct pepper and complex spice characteristics. The shiraz grapes are grown on a north-west facing hill at latitude 35 S and longitude 150. The vineyard receives sun all day and misses the winter frosts. Both 2011 and 2012 vintages are for drinking now or cellar up to ten years. See the recent Tasting Notes by Rob Geddes Master of Wine and Alison Eisermann Master of Wine.
